Blooming and falling, everyday and every time
2019 ~ Current, Large format BW film, Alternative processed, Archival pigment print, Size variable

Jeong Hur conceives of self-portraiture as a process of personal affirmation in the face of existential doubt. Working with large-format black-and-white film, he focuses on the details and textures of his body in each of his photographs. He then manipulates his negatives in the darkroom, scratching and splashing them with chemicals to create abstract patterns that obstruct and complicate his images. In this way he stages his own disappearance while simultaneously asserting his presence through his performative traces.
